“Thank you, TVH, for saving my life!”

Yvonne LeMay was watching TV in the early morning of April 2, when she felt like her glasses were askew. After readjusting them failed to resolve her double vision, LeMay grew concerned a muscle in her eye had popped loose. She contacted her ophthalmologist and was told to go to the nearest emergency room.
Getting ready to go, LeMay began to feel dizzy and nauseous and struggled to see and stand. Her blood pressure was at 185/110. Not recognizing the seriousness of the situation, she went to an urgent care in her hometown of Aguanga. After a long wait and due to a lack of on-site testing equipment, she was once again directed to an ER.
LeMay arrived at Temecula Valley Hospital and was immediately assessed by two doctors and informed that she had experienced a stroke. “I kept insisting that I did not have a stroke because I didn’t have the usual symptoms; no weakness on either side of my body,” said LeMay.
Dr. Robert Jackson, TVH Stroke Medical Director and vascular neurologist, assessed LeMay and began treating her with a clot-removing injection. LeMay spent the following 24 hours recovering in the ICU.
“I have to admit I felt so pampered by the nurses at Temecula Valley Hospital, especially Tamera,” said LeMay. “She covered me with warm blankets and made sure I was always comfortable. Everyone I encountered at the hospital treated me with care and compassion. It would never have occurred to me that a hospital stay could be such a pleasant experience."
LeMay attributes her positive outcome to the quick action of Dr. Jackson. “It’s a great comfort to me to know that I can count on TVH to provide the very best in healthcare to our community,” she said.
A month out from her stroke, LeMay says she still suffers from double vision but is committed to her recovery. “I was told that prisms in my glasses may be a possibility after my eyes have stabilized,” she said. “In the meantime, I’m adjusting as well as I can. I’m so grateful that I’m still able to enjoy my gardening, sewing, painting and pottery. Thank you, TVH, for saving my life!”
